About University
Jiangsu Normal University
At first, Jiangsu Normal University was built in 1952 as Wuxi Vocational School for Former Military Officers with Lieutenant General Liu Xiansheng as the first president. In 1956, it was temporarily renamed Jiangsu Training School for Middle-School Teachers, which was a regular higher education school with the approval from the State Council. The university was renamed Jiangsu Normal School in 1957 and was moved north to Xuzhou in1958. After that, in 1959, it was united with Xuzhou Vocational Normal School to form Xuzhou Normal College, the only undergraduate college in northern Jiangsu.
In the early 1960s, higher education in China went through structural reform. Premier Zhou pointed out, “The vast land of Xuzhou should be home to universities.” Since then, it has been fixed in northern Jiangsu. In 1979, it launched to recruit postgraduates. In the year of 1981, it grow into one of the first colleges conferring master’s degree in China. In 1996, with the approval from the former State Education Commission, it was renamed as Xuzhou Normal University. In November of 2011, the reply from Ministry of Education to Jiangsu Provincial Government approved that it can be renamed as Jiangsu Normal University.
Today, Jiangsu Normal University is composed of 4 campuses, such as Kuiyuan, Jiawang, Quanshan, Yunlong. The land area occupation covers over 200 hectares; In Jiangsu Normal University, there are 812,000 square meters in the school’s buildings, including 112,300 square meters of laboratories. The university has fixed assets totaling 1.13 billion yuan, including the teaching & laboratory equipment totaling 227 million yuan. There are closely 2.50 million volumes in the library. The university has three trial academic divisions, twenty-one specialty schools, plus the Teachers’ Training School, Kewen Institute, Further Education School and International College. Currently, the university offers eighty undergraduate majors, one doctor’s program for national urgent needs; 26 master’s programs including Master’s of Education, Master’s of Physical Education, Master’s of Internati & Translation.
The university has a recent enrollment of 24,914 full time undergraduate students (including 8,243 students in Kewen Institute) and 2,890 postgraduates, and 8,353 higher education training adults students. The university was one of the first of 200 universities authorized to register international students in China. JSNU has established intercollegiate relationships with more than 20 universities and colleges in Korea, Australia, Russia, USA, UK, Japan, Belarus, and Uzbekistan. We have international students from seventy countries. Since the school was established, it has graduated more than 170,000 students, many who have played a important a role in diverse fields including politics, economy, culture, technology and education.
Throughout the history of its development, the university has been home to many renowned scholars well known both here and abroad including Professor Liao Xudong, an expert on Chinese linguistics; Professor Wu Benxing, the well-known poet and trained on Modern Chinese Literature; the dramatist,Professor Wang Jinshan and expert on Ancient Chinese Literary History; Professor Wu Ruyu, an expert on Ancient Chinese Literature; Professor Liu Baichuan, the educational theorist; Professor Zhang Hunting, a psychologist; Professor Zang Yunpu, a historian; Professor Luo Qixiang, geographer and many other distinguished professional and scholars.
More than 50 years, all the faculty and staff have stuck to the school motto “To highlight morality and education” and have carried forward the sincere pioneering spirit, leading to rapid development of JSNU. The university has always strived to train brilliant young students to meet the demands of the society. To that end, we have constantly upgraded and improved the quality of our educational experience. In 2004, the Ministry of Education graded the university as magnificent for undergraduate education. In 2006, the Ministry of Education graded our English major program as outstanding.
Currently, the university has four national-level professional building programs, 2 national-level elaborate courses, 1 national-level teaching faculty team, 1 special prize, 7 first prize and 29 second prize for provincial level teaching accomplishment, 20 provincial-level brand & characteristic majors, 47 provincial level elaborate(excellent) courses, 2 provincial level teaching faculty teams, ten provincial level elaborate textbooks, 1 provincial-level experiment base for the genius training mode innovation, 15 laboratory projects under joint building by the central and local, and 12 provincial-level experimental teaching demonstration centers.
In addition to the above, the university has also been determined as the college student cultural quality education base of Jiangsu Province, normal student quality education base, provincial level training base for key teachers of primary and secondary schools, provincial training base for secondary vocational education teachers, provincial level training base for teachers of the new curriculum of primary education by the provincial Department of Education, and one of the five regional college student mental health education and research centers in Jiangsu Province.
The university has always concentrated on research across all the disciplines. Recently, the university has 4 phase-I projects for superiority subject of colleges and universities of Jiangsu Province, 1 key provincial-level discipline of first class disciplines and 4 key provincial level disciplines of first class disciplines (training center). In addition, it has three key laboratories for provincial-level colleges and universities, and two provincial level philosophy and social science research centers, and three key research centers for the philosophy & social science of the provincial-level colleges and universities. In the last 5 years, the university has been awarded more than 500 government sponsored research projects, including 132 nationally fund projects. It has also achieved over 60 scientific research awards above the ministerial level and provincial level, including the first, 2nd and 3rd prizes for the outstanding achievement in the humanities, social science research at Chinese colleges and universities.
Our faculty was also awarded the 2nd prize for natural science, the first prize for the progress in science and technology both published by the Ministry of Education. Researchers at the university have also circulated 7,250 papers, and 1,775 of them have been indexed by EI, ISTP, SCI and CSSCI. In addition, our faculty published 163 volumes, 83 textbooks, and received 46 patents. JSNU Press’ The Journal of Liberal Arts and its journal Language Science have been selected into Guide to Chinese Core Journals. Language Science also has been selected as the source journal of CSSCI 2years running. The Press’ science journal has been awarded as the core journal of Chinese science for 3 consecutive years and was recognized as RCCSE Chinese core academic journal in 2009.
The university has also actively developed new approaches to accelerate local economic and social development. In current years, the university has successively established the teaching and scientific research associations with ten schools in northern Jiangsu to enhance the regional elementary education reform and economic and social development. We have established strategic corporate relationships with the local governments of Lianyungang, Suqian, Xuzhou, Yancheng, Zhongwei of Ningxia & set up technical cooperation with XCMG, other enterprises, and institutions.
JSNU set up 5 major R&D centers, which play an effective role in the construction of the provincial level University Science & Technology Park. As the only learning center for government officials in Northern Jiangsu, our university makes its contribution to the in-depth cooperation between the university and the local government and between the university and other enterprises. The university established an inventive strategy for the university’s integrating into the provincial economy.
Recently, our students have achieved the 2nd prize in the Challenge Cup, the national level University extracurricular academic technology competition, first prize in the national level University Art Festival, first prize in the national level university mathematical modeling competition, special awards in the provincial level humanities knowledge competition of colleges students in science and engineering majors. Students also have achieved championships in international and private sports events. The women’s football team has achieved multiple national championships. Some players have been selected for the national team for the 5th Women World Cup and Beijing Olympic Games.
Many of our players were on the Chinese College Women Football Team when they won the 2nd prize in the 23rd World University Games. The TV series Days without Rain, which was directed, acted and written by the teachers and students of the university, achieved the dream Cup at the 5th national level college TV competition. JSNU has been figure out as the “Advanced Collectivity of College Students’ Mental Health Education in Jiangsu Province” and has been awarded as “National Advanced Unit for College Students’ Mental Health Education”. The university has been assessed as the “Advanced Employment Collectivity” by Jiangsu Province four times. The summer social practice program has been received by The Central Propaganda Department, the Ministry of Education, the League Central Committee and National Association of Students for 11 consecutive years.

Admission Procedure
Apply for a course in a Chinese University is very easy. Students just have to follow some steps to apply for their favorite course. In order to help students complete their online application, International students are recommended to follow the simple instructions.
Foreign applicants must provide the following documents to apply:

2. Passport & Passport Size Photo (Scan copy )

Dear student, the first thing you need to have a passport. This is more important documents because without a passport you can not go to study in your dream country. To have passport make you secure to live or study abroad. So if you don’t have it, we suggest you make your passport ready from the embassy office in your home country. Moreover if you have your passport already, then make sure your passport expiry date will not be expired. If it already be expired then you need to remake your passport.
- Passport Size Photo
The passport photo size (50mm x 40mm) in general. The photo should be clear and the background must be plain, white or off-white in color. The height of the head should be between 28mm – 33mm.The head width has to be between 21mm–24mm. Submit a color photo, taken in the last 6 months. Use a clear image of your face. 3. Transcripts & Certificates (Must be Notarized Copy )
Students for Bachelor Degree need to provide their school transcripts and certificates. For Master Degree Applicants have to bring their undergraduate transcripts and certificates. And Doctorate Degree studies must provide their both (undergraduate and graduate) transcripts and certificates.
Please take as a note that is, all the transcripts and certificates should be notarized.
Note : Transcripts in languages other than Chinese or English must be attached with translations in Chinese or English.
4. English Proficiency Certificate
In China, some universities does not asked IELTS but if you study in Chinese Taught for CSC scholarship, English Proficiency Certificate need to have ready. If you have IELTS already then you are lucky to study in China without delay.
5. CV/Resume
Applicants must have to prepare their CV if they want to study abroad in their desired country. 6. Study Plan or Research Proposal (Ms/PhD)
Applicants for graduate studies need a study plan or research proposal in Chinese or in English (no less than 800 words). This document is required only for Ms or PhD applicants.
7. Recommendation Letter (Ms/PhD)
Applicants for all graduate studies need two letters of recommendation from full professors or associate professors (in Chinese or English). Letters must be include professors’ phone number and email address. Here is the sample of Recommendation Letter.
8. Published Academic Papers or Other Academic Achievements (if applicable).
9. Foreign Physical Examination
Applicants are expected to keep the original copies filled in English. The medical examination must cover all the items listed in the Foreigner Physical Examination Form. Incomplete records or those without the signature of the attending physician, the official stamp of the hospital or a sealed photograph of the applicants are invalid. Medical examination results will be valid for 6 months. All applicants are kindly requested to take this factor into consideration as they plan to take the medical examination. 10. Bank Statement
Bank statements must show to any foreign country for the purpose of a visitor or a business or an immigrants. For the study purpose in foreign countries also need to show bank statement. So dear applicants, you will need to have ready your all documents. Sponsorship can be your parents or anyone whom are your blood related.
11. Police Verification (No Criminal Record)
This is also need to have ready for the study purpose. It is important because foreign country does not allow criminal record. A Police Clearance Certificate is an official document approved by the police or government agencies in order to prove that the applicant has no criminal offense against him/her like arrest, conviction.
